JSU splits double header at Alcorn State

SUMMARY: In a double-header between SWAC rivals Jackson State and Alcorn State, the women’s game saw Alcorn’s Tyginae Wright score 20 points but Jackson State’s Areyanna Hunter and Angel Jackson helped secure a 62-54 win for JSU, snapping Alcorn’s three-game win streak. In the men’s game, both teams had four-game win streaks but Alcorn pulled away in overtime with Byron Joshua leading the way. Jordan O’Neal scored 17 for JSU but it wasn’t enough. Alcorn’s Jeremigh Gambrell hit a key three-pointer and they managed to extend their streak to five games.

The Jackson State women’s basketball team holds off the surging Braves for 62-54 win but in the men’s contest Alcorn State pulls away from the Tigers 87-73 in overtime.

SUMMARY: Parts of the region could see storms on Father’s Day, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices in the upper 90s. Afternoon storms may bring gusty winds and hail, though severe weather is not expected. Monday follows a similar pattern with scattered afternoon storms. A high-pressure system will move in by Thursday, bringing well-above-average temperatures. Heat indices may reach 107–110 degrees by Friday, especially west of I-55 in Mississippi.
