SUMMARY: The Jones County jail has set up a medical facility on site, providing medical support for inmates, hence reducing the need to transport them to the local hospital. HealthCore, the company partnered with the county for this initiative, offers two registered nurses, medical supplies, and equipment. This has resulted in 6 to 8 inmates a month being sent to emergency rooms, which is seen as tax relief for local citizens. After the previous contract with a South Central regional medical center expired, the need for on-site medical care became evident.
