Jones County crews respond to two large fires

SUMMARY: Jones County firefighters responded to two large fires on February 25. The first fire on Barnes Drive burned 40 acres and two abandoned homes. Residents were evacuated while firefighters worked to contain the blaze, with assistance from the Mississippi Forestry Commission. At the same time, another fire on Ben Thompson Road burned 30 acres. Overall, there were more than 10 woods/brush fires that day, with most occurring between noon and 6:00 p.m. No injuries were reported in either fire, but a total of nine dogs died in the blaze at one of the abandoned homes.
