Jean Knight recorded ‘Mr. Big Stuff’ in Jackson

SUMMARY: The hit song “Mr. Big Stuff” was recorded in 1971 at the original Malaco Records studio in the capital city, Jackson. Wolf Stephenson, a senior engineer at Malaco Music Group, was present during the recording and recalls Jean Knight as a fun and professional artist. It took a while for the song to gain traction, but after the success of “Groove Me,” it took off. Stephenson wishes he had taken more pictures to document the recording session. He continued to work with Knight on multiple projects and enjoyed her lively spirit and talent. The studio was destroyed by a tornado in 2011.
