Jackson water sees some improvement after year of work
SUMMARY: Jackson’s water treatment system has made improvements since experiencing failures last year. The company Jacobs was contracted to operate the water treatment plants and make improvements to the overall system. They have seen a decline in boil water notices, increased water pressure, and more consistent billing. They are working towards achieving compliance with the Mississippi State Department of Health-approved Water Quality Parameters. Jacobs has made changes such as restoring water treatment capacity, improving water treatability, increasing capacity and stabilizing production, hiring additional staff, and conducting a corrosion control study. Jackson’s water system is currently facing violations related to corrosion control treatment and the Lead & Copper Rule.

SUMMARY: Ole Miss specialist Lucas Carneiro was named to the 2025 Lou Groza Award preseason watch list, recognizing the nation’s top college placekicker. A transfer from Western Kentucky, Carneiro impressed in his sophomore season after moving from Bowling Green to Ole Miss, earning Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year honors. He completed 18 of 19 field goals, including a perfect 6-for-6 from 50+ yards, and converted all 41 extra points. His 94.7% field goal rate ranks second among returning FBS kickers. Semifinalists will be announced November 18, with the winner crowned December 12 on ESPN.

SUMMARY: A statewide law enforcement effort in Mississippi, called “Operation Guardian Force,” led to 72 arrests related to human and drug trafficking and offenses against children, along with the rescue of 29 trafficking victims. The two-week operation involved 400 officers from federal, state, and local agencies, including the Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Task Force and other specialized units. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch emphasized the commitment to removing traffickers and aiding victims. Partnering agencies included the FBI, DEA, and numerous local police and sheriff’s departments. Victim services were provided by organizations such as the Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence.

SUMMARY: Mississippi State baseball will open its 2026 season with an exhibition game against Florida State on October 18 at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola. After a postseason run in 2025 under interim coach Justin Parker, the Bulldogs fell to FSU in the Tallahassee Regional championship. The 2026 team, led by new head coach Brian O’Connor, returns few starters but adds several transfer players. The exhibition offers fans an early look at this revamped roster. Tickets go on sale to the public August 12. Blue Wahoos president Jonathan Griffith highlighted the event’s significance given both programs’ College World Series histories.
