Jackson State female kicker makes history in 22-16 win over Bethune-Cookman

SUMMARY: In a historic move, Leilina Armenta became the first female to kick in a game in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) history. Armenta, a freshman on the Jackson State women’s soccer team, was added to the football roster due to injuries. Although not the first female member of an HBCU football program, she made history for Jackson State. Despite her one-time appearance, Jackson State went on to win the game against Bethune Cookman. Armenta’s feat came on the same day that Haley Van Voorhis of Division III Shenandoah University became the first non-kicker woman to play in an NCAA game.

Jackson State alum Tramell Tillman wins Emmy for ‘Severance’ role
