Jackson mayor responds to pay raises for firefighters

Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba acknowledged their concerns during his weekly briefing, stating that city employees’ healthcare premiums were adjusted to provide them with a higher take-home pay during the pandemic. However, he recognizes that more needs to be done and believes that firefighters, along with other city divisions, deserve a raise. The challenge lies in how to achieve this goal without sacrificing city services or burdening residents with additional costs. The issue of firefighter pay has not been adequately addressed for some time.
