Jackson mayor receives recommendation for garbage contract
SUMMARY: Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba discussed trash collection during a news conference, revealing that only two companies submitted bids during the request for proposals (RFP) period. Richard’s Disposal was one of the companies that submitted a bid, and the review committee has made a recommendation to the mayor. However, the city has to enter contract negotiations with the recommended vendor before it is presented to the City Council. He did not reveal the name of the company until negotiations are completed. The city is currently under an emergency contract with Richard’s, which will expire on March 31, 2024.
