Jackson man receives Star of Life award for response to Mudbug Festival shooting
SUMMARY: Preston Crotwell, a Jackson native and part-time employee for AMR, received the Star of Life award—an esteemed recognition among frontline EMS responders. Crotwell was honored for his exemplary service during the 2022 Mudbug Festival shooting, where he and his partner, Tim Shanks, provided critical treatment at the scene until additional help arrived. Following his coworkers’ nomination, Crotwell traveled to Washington D.C. with Shanks to accept the award. Each year, over a million EMS caregivers are nominated nationwide, but only around 100 are chosen for the distinction. Crotwell noted the inspiration drawn from meeting other awardees with extraordinary stories.
