Jackson homicide suspect captured by U.S. Marshals Service

SUMMARY: Brandon Pugh, a suspect in a Jackson homicide case, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service. Pugh initially refused to come out of the house where he was found, but was eventually arrested. He was wanted for aggravated assault, murder, and shooting into an occupied dwelling for an incident that occurred on May 28, 2023. The shooting took place near McDowell Road and Interstate 55 South.

11 people become American citizens in Jackson

SUMMARY: 11 new Americans from 7 different countries took their oaths as citizens at the Thad Cochran United States Courthouse, accompanied by their families and friends. One new citizen described the journey as long but is happy to have finally completed the process. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chet Kirkham verified that all applicants met the qualifications for citizenship. U.S. Magistrate Judge Lakeysha Greer Isaac extended her welcome to the new citizens and commended them for their long hours and dedication. She also noted the rich cultural and diverse contributions that they would bring to the United States. Nine new citizens also requested to change their names after becoming naturalized.
