Jackson, Flowood under boil water alerts
SUMMARY: The State Department of Health has reported positive tests for E. coli in the water systems of Flowood and Jackson. However, Jackson water officials are disputing the results and believe it could be a false positive caused by a mistake from the Health Department. Third-party administrator Ted Henifin and his partner company Jacobs Engineering are conducting further testing to ensure the safety of the drinking water. They emphasize that this has not happened since they took over, and they do not want customers to lose faith in the water. In the meantime, water customers are advised to boil their water for 2-3 minutes before use.

West Point football relies on faith, seniors and fourth-quarter mentality
SUMMARY: The West Point Green Wave football team, aiming for its 14th state title, has appeared in the championship game for ten consecutive seasons. Their sustained success is rooted in faith, with head coach Brett Morgan emphasizing a strong spiritual foundation through FCA and reliance on God. Senior leadership also plays a key role, as each class sets the tone for younger players. The team prepares by facing top-tier opponents like Tupelo, Starkville, and Lewisville early in the season. With a “fours up” mentality, the Green Wave focus on fourth-quarter resilience, pushing themselves to give everything until the final whistle.

Asian needle ants spotted in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Asian needle ants, an invasive species from East Asia, have been spotted in at least 17 states, including Mississippi and Texas. These ants deliver a painful sting that can pierce clothing and inject venom causing severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis, which may lead to swelling, breathing difficulties, and rapid heartbeat. At least three people in Georgia required hospitalization after stings last year. Unlike the non-dangerous Joro spider recently spreading through the Southeast, the Asian needle ant poses a serious health risk. Experts warn residents to remain vigilant to prevent these ants from nesting and spreading further across the U.S.
The Asian needle ant has been spotted in several U.S. states, including Mississippi.
