It is one of the busiest call centers in the state, receiving an average of 1,700 calls per day. The center has faced challenges with a shortage of dispatchers and a switch to a new software system. To address the shortage, the department has assigned police recruits and hired temporary dispatchers. Shifts have also been changed to prevent “dispatchers burnout.” In an effort to free up the line, residents are urged to only call 911 for emergencies. The department has introduced a walk-in report program for non-emergency matters.
