HPD: Woman shot, killed by ex while throwing birthday party for child

SUMMARY: Houston police are searching for a father who allegedly shot and killed the mother of his children during a birthday party in northeast Houston. Witness Felicia Adams reported seeing the father arrive and shout, “let’s end this now,” before firing five shots into the home. The incident unfolded in front of the couple’s four- and six-year-old children and the mother’s boyfriend. Officers found the mother deceased inside while the children remained unharmed. The gunman fled the scene, and police urge him to contact them. Neighbors noted previous disturbances at the residence.

Houston police said they knew who the shooter was and advised him to turn himself in.

Texas nursing students return from life-changing internship in Africa

Austin becoming FEMA-approved emergency alert authority, planning 1st test alert

SUMMARY: On Monday, Sept. 29, Austin will conduct a test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), becoming a FEMA-approved alerting authority able to send emergency alerts via Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) to cell phones and Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages to TV and radio. This coordinated test at 3 p.m. will cover the city across its three counties—Travis, Hays, and Williamson. The alerts will clearly indicate a test and require no action.
