Special election set after two illegal votes in Pearl River County tax assessor race

Governor Tate Reeves announced the election date after court documents revealed that illegal votes affected the runoff results between Sandy Cain Smith and Joe Lynn Houston. The runoff was originally decided by just three votes in Picayune’s south side precincts. Due to the narrow margin and the invalid ballots, voters in two precincts will return to the polls to ensure a fair and accurate outcome for the county tax assessor and collector position.
