Gulfport sports legend Lindy Callahan dies at 97

After professional baseball, he became a coach at Gulfport High School in 1953, where he led the football team to three state championships and a record of 54-5-4. Callahan later became athletic director and was an influential figure in Mississippi high school sports. He was inducted into nine halls of fame, and the MHSAA established the Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete program in his honor. He is survived by his family.
