Gov. DeSantis speaks on Hurricane Helene aftermath in Bradenton, Fl
SUMMARY: In response to ongoing rescue demands in Western North Carolina after a storm, Operation Blue Ridge was initiated, involving state and National Guard assets for air evacuations. Many roads are destroyed, complicating rescue efforts. Rescue missions continue, with efforts to deliver supplies via helicopter. The use of flood protection devices (tiger dams) has effectively prevented water damage in critical areas, demonstrating the need for mitigation strategies. Plans for future resilience include potential incentives for homeowners to deploy similar flood barriers. The governor anticipates further storms but remains prepared to mobilize resources efficiently for any required response.

Judge appoints receiver to sell off Alex Jones’s Infowars assets to help pay Sandy Hook families
SUMMARY: A Texas judge appointed a receiver to seize and sell Alex Jones’ Infowars assets to pay over $1 billion owed to Sandy Hook victims’ families for defamation and emotional distress lawsuits. The ruling could lock Jones out of his Austin studio and revives The Onion’s bid to purchase Infowars and convert it into a parody site. Jones called the court order improper and vowed to continue broadcasting from another studio. Jones and his company filed for bankruptcy in 2022; a federal judge overturned a sealed-bid auction won by The Onion due to transparency concerns. The state court will oversee asset liquidation to compensate the Sandy Hook families.
