House makes history, removes McCarthy as Speaker
SUMMARY: Republicans, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz, have joined forces with Democrats to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House in a 216-210 vote. This marks the first time in history that the House has voted to remove a sitting Speaker, resulting in an uncertain future and the need for a new Speaker's race. Rep. Patrick McHenry has been declared acting Speaker, responsible for presiding over the new Speaker election. McCarthy's removal is largely attributed to his handling of fiscal issues and personal disputes, and he had attempted to make a deal to save his Speakership but was unsuccessful.
