Fulton Fire Department buys new wildland fire tools

SUMMARY: The Fulton Fire Department has enhanced its Wildland firefighting capabilities with a $4,500 grant from the Mississippi Forestry Commission. The funds were used to purchase essential tools, including fire rakes, McLoud tools, shovels, fire flaps, and blowers. Additionally, each grant recipient received approximately $1,000 worth of smoke Chase Pro 5-gallon backpack sprayers, bringing the total value of the equipment to $55,000. This new gear replaces outdated tools and equips firefighters to better combat grass and woods fires, especially during the current dry conditions.

The Fulton Fire Department received $4,500 for wildland fire tools.

Safe Haven Baby Box opens in Gluckstadt

SUMMARY: On Wednesday, the city of Gluckstadt unveiled a new Safe Haven Baby Box in the parking lot of its new Police Station and Municipal Court. Funded by CPS Pools and Spas and community donors, the baby box offers a safe way for individuals to surrender infants anonymously, removing shame and blame. Mayor and residents expressed gratitude, citing the box as a vital alternative to save lives. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, creator of the Mississippi Access to Maternal Assistance app, praised the growing number of baby boxes statewide, now totaling six. Gluckstadt became a city in 2021 and recently opened its first dedicated police building. Police Chief Hale noted they have 20 officers with new facilities including a dispatch center and courtroom.
