Former Mississippi Lottery Corporation vice president pleads guilty to embezzlement
SUMMARY: Hope Bishop, the former Vice President of Human Resources at the Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC), pled guilty to embezzlement for giving herself unauthorized raises. Arrested in November 2023, Bishop’s actions were discovered by MLC staff who reported it to the State Auditor’s office. Implementing additional preventative controls, the MLC ensured the lottery’s gaming integrity remained unaffected. Bishop received a $187,738.85 demand and was sentenced by the Rankin County District Attorney’s Office to 20 years, with 15 years suspended, five years of house arrest, and five years of supervised probation. Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office.
