For one sentinel, a final walk at Arlington’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
SUMMARY: Army Sgt. 1st Class Andrew Jay has spent two years faithfully guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, enduring rigorous physical and mental training. His final walk is scheduled for June 2, marking a significant moment in his career. The sentinels perform a precise, symbolic ritual honoring unidentified U.S. service members from World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. As Memorial Day approaches, Arlington will hold events like “Flags In” and Flowers of Remembrance Day to honor fallen soldiers. Jay emphasizes that guarding the tomb honors all service members buried there, symbolizing their sacrifice for freedom.
