Florida seabirds nearly buried alive by storm surge rescued by Good Samaritans
SUMMARY: Hurricane Milton caused unexpected harm to seabirds, trapping them in seagrass and sand on Indian Rocks Beach. Two young boys, ages four and two, discovered the cormorants buried up to their necks, leading to their rescue. The birds were dehydrated, with one suffering from atrophied legs. Thankfully, the nonprofit Birds in Helping Hands was able to assist the birds, as their usual facility was flooded. The boys’ curiosity saved the seabirds’ lives, as they would likely have perished without intervention. The rescued birds are recovering well at a facility in Venice, marking a hopeful outcome from the disaster.
