SUMMARY: In Lake County, a tragic ambush has claimed the life of Deputy Bradley Link and injured two other deputies. Julie Soio, 48, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Early on August 2, deputies responded to a disturbance involving Soio, who was reportedly assaulting her neighbors and claiming to be under divine orders. Upon returning to her home for a welfare check, deputies were ambushed by her husband, Michael Soio. Despite efforts to rescue Deputy Link, he succumbed to injuries. Julie faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer. Support for the deputies and their families is ongoing.

Lake County Sheriff Peyton C. Grinnell, State Attorney Bill Gladson, and Lake County Lt. John Harrell hosted a press conference on Monday afternoon with new details about the ambush that killed one deputy and injured two others. Officials said they’ve arrested a suspect, shared an update on the injured deputies in the hospital, and revealed what happened during the ambush late Friday night.

Environmental groups threaten new lawsuit over ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ site

Published

www.clickorlando.com – Jim Saunders – 2025-07-12 16:14:00

SUMMARY: Environmental groups Friends of the Everglades and the Center for Biological Diversity warned they may sue federal and state agencies over alleged Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act violations related to the “Alligator Alcatraz” immigrant-detention center in the Everglades. The notice follows a June 27 lawsuit alleging National Environmental Policy Act violations for failing to assess environmental impacts properly. The detention center, located at a remote airport near Big Cypress National Preserve, could house 3,000 undocumented immigrants. Environmentalists argue the project threatens endangered species, including Florida panthers, and claim agencies bypassed mandatory consultations and permits. Governor DeSantis disputes these environmental concerns. The groups plan to sue if issues aren’t resolved within 60 days.

Published

on

www.youtube.com – CBS Miami – 2025-07-12 10:25:40

SUMMARY: This weekend in South Florida, expect pop-up rain showers and high humidity. Storms will develop mainly in the afternoon, particularly around Hard Rock Stadium between 3-7 PM, causing occasional rain but no major washouts. Temperatures are extremely hot, with feels-like temperatures reaching near 100°F, so stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities. The ocean conditions are generally calm with low rip current risk, making it a decent day for boating despite isolated showers. However, a soggy start to next week is anticipated with persistent rain. Also, don’t miss the cute June Bug pet photos featured in the dog walk forecast.

Iran says it would resume nuclear talks with US if guaranteed no further attacks

Published

www.news4jax.com – Tehran, Iran, Associated Press – 2025-07-12 09:43:00

SUMMARY: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated Iran is willing to resume nuclear talks with the U.S. only if there are firm guarantees that no further attacks will occur, referencing recent Israeli bombardments and a U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear sites. These attacks have complicated negotiations and led Iran to suspend cooperation with the U.N. nuclear watchdog, with inspections now handled case by case based on Iran’s security concerns. Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s right to continue uranium enrichment, despite U.S. opposition. Iran’s nuclear facilities remain heavily damaged, preventing full assessment of the destruction.
