Feeling caucus confusion? Your guide to how Iowa works
SUMMARY: The 2024 U.S. presidential race commences with Iowa’s caucuses. The Republican process remains largely unchanged, while Democrats have overhauled their approach following chaos in 2020. Instead of the traditional caucus vote, Iowa Democrats will select their nominee through mail-in ballots. Republican caucuses will still convene in person, where they’ll bind votes for a nominee and elect delegates for the national convention. Democrats focus on internal party business and the delegate selection for their convention. The outcomes, particularly for Republicans, can influence momentum for candidates, despite Iowa’s small delegate contribution to the national total.
