Federal officials make over $6 million available for mid-June storm victims
SUMMARY: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) have allocated over $6 million to help Mississippi residents recover from severe weather and tornadoes in mid-June. FEMA has approved more than $3 million in grants for homeowners and renters in Jackson and Jasper counties for housing assistance and other needs; this includes over $433,000 for personal property replacement. Additionally, over 900 survivor interviews by FEMA helped identify individuals struggling with the application process, providing them with additional grants. Meanwhile, the SBA has approved $3.8 million in disaster loans for home repairs and business recovery. Public assistance grants are also being provided to 29 counties and one tribal nation affected by the disaster.

Mississippi College to support Jackson VA with student counselors
SUMMARY: Mississippi College (MC) has partnered with the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson to provide clinical training for counseling students. Through a memorandum of understanding, MC will send qualified counseling students to the VA, allowing them to gain hands-on experience by offering mental health services to veterans under supervision. Students begin working at the VA after completing core courses and entering the clinical phase, where they will manage treatment plans and case notes. This new affiliation, starting this fall, aims to reduce veterans’ wait times and enhance access to counseling, marking MC’s first collaboration with a VA Medical Center.

International chemical company investing $5.52M in Clarke County
