Federal judge dismisses Trump classified documents case over concerns with prosecutor’s appointment
SUMMARY: A federal judge in Florida dismissed the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump, siding with defense claims that the special counsel, Jack Smith, was improperly appointed. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon ruled that Smith’s appointment violated the Constitution’s Appointments Clause and that his office was improperly funded by the Justice Department. This abrupt conclusion halts a criminal case in which Trump faced numerous felony counts for allegedly hoarding classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and obstructing FBI efforts to retrieve them. The decision has sparked controversy, with Smith’s team disagreeing with the ruling’s implications.

Mississippi officials react to U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites
SUMMARY: Mississippi officials reacted strongly to U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites amid Iran-Israel tensions. President Trump announced successful B-2 bomber strikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan facilities to halt nuclear enrichment, calling Iran a “bully” and warning of future attacks if peace is not made. Iran vowed to continue its nuclear work despite the strikes. Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson condemned the attacks as an “illegal act of war” without Congressional approval, aligning with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s constitutional concerns. Meanwhile, Governor Tate Reeves, Senator Roger Wicker, and others praised Trump’s decisive military action and called for prayers and support for troops.
