SUMMARY: A federal judge approved a landmark settlement allowing U.S. college athletes to be paid millions, ending the amateurism model that defined college sports for over a century. It imposes roster limits but lets cut players return without penalty, addressing walk-on concerns. Oversight shifts from the NCAA to major conferences like the ACC and SEC. While it benefits high-profile football and basketball stars, it risks cutting smaller sports and walk-ons. Legal challenges remain due to varied state NIL laws.
