FBI agents raided the office and business of a Mississippi prosecutor, but no one is saying why
SUMMARY: The FBI raided the office and businesses of Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens in Jackson, Mississippi. Agents spent hours searching a cigar bar owned by Owens and removed items from his courthouse office. FBI spokesperson Marshay Lawson did not disclose the reason for the search, as the warrants are sealed by the court. Owens, who has a background with the Southern Poverty Law Center and ran as a criminal justice reformer, stated his office is cooperating. Previously, Owens faced a simple assault charge in 2022, which he denied. Owens’s tenure has coincided with high crime rates and political controversy over state control in Jackson.
