SUMMARY: Early Tuesday morning, William Brewer smelled smoke in their home but couldn’t find the source. About an hour and a half later, the family awoke to the smoke detectors going off and the house filling with smoke. They were able to escape, along with their two dogs, Peaches and Sarah, but the house was completely filled with smoke. The family is grateful for the quick thinking and efficiency of the smoke detectors which helped save their lives.

SUMMARY: The 2027 governor race will be highly competitive as Tate Reeves is term-limited. Key Republican contenders include State Auditor Shad White, Delbert Hoseman, billionaire Tommy Duff, several congressmen or former congressmen, former Speaker of the House, and Attorney General Lynn Fitch. Experts predict a crowded primary likely leading to a runoff, with candidates drawing support from different regions like the coast, Pine Belt, and Jackson metro. On the Democratic side, Brandon Presley, the 2023 nominee, is considered the odds-on favorite to run again and likely secure the party’s nomination in 2027.

Fireworks Safety Tips
SUMMARY: The 4th of July celebrations come with important safety precautions. In Buxy, fireworks are usually illegal except on special occasions like Independence Day. Police Lieutenant Candace Young advises treating fireworks as explosives, keeping children from using them, and staying in safe, clear areas away from people and houses. Fireworks can distress pets, so bring animals indoors to prevent them from fleeing. Boaters should avoid designated fireworks-free zones in the sound and never operate a boat under the influence. A detailed map of restricted areas is available on Buxy’s website. Expect heavy traffic near the official fireworks show along Beach Boulevard.
