SUMMARY: Starting today, Mississippi’s back-to-school tax-free weekend offers major savings at retailers like Walmart from July 12th to 14th. The 7% sales tax exemption applies to items such as backpacks, folders, and markers, offering budget-conscious customers significant discounts. Originally held at the end of July, the event was moved earlier to align with the school calendar. Besides school supplies, eligible clothing items are also tax-free, making it easier for parents to buy essentials like shirts, shoes, and jeans under $100. Walmart also provides a sensory-friendly shopping experience daily from 8 to 10 AM.

Before this year, the holiday was late July and only two days long. This change accounts for some students returning to school earlier than usual.
