Total Solar Eclipse By The Numbers

SUMMARY: The 2024 total solar eclipse will pass through the United States from the Mexican border with to Maine, covering 13 states in a path 2,142 miles long and an average of 5 miles wide. There will be 31.6 million people living in the path of totality and 149.5 million people within 200 miles of it. Those outside the path will still see a partial eclipse. Radar Base, Texas will experience the longest totality at 4 minutes 27 seconds. Carbondale, Illinois will have a second eclipse in less than 7 years, with the 2024 eclipse a 68% longer duration of totality.
