This surpassed the previous record of a lightning bolt stretching over South Mississippi in April 2020. The 2017 lightning event was part of a complex of storms stretching from Texas to South Mississippi, with satellite data indicating the bolt traveled 477 miles, setting a new record for the longest lightning flash ever observed.

The previous record was held by a bolt that flashed across the Gulf Coast and South Mississippi.

SUMMARY: The Attorney General’s office has concluded its investigation into a 2024 officer-involved shooting at the William Bell Apartments in Gulfport. Police responded to reports of screams inside an apartment and found Kendrall Tate actively stabbing another man. The Gulfport police officer involved shot Tate, who later died from his injuries. The AG’s investigation determined the use of force was justified. This finding comes alongside reviews of two other officer-involved shootings in Corinth and Meridian, which were also examined by Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office.

After the investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Attorney General’s Office said the use of force was justified.
