Drivers take notice: Section of I-59 to be squeezed starting Thursday
SUMMARY: Drivers on I-59 in the Pine Belt area should prepare for lane shifts and head-to-head traffic from the Buie River Bridge to just south of the Evelyn Gandy Parkway due to ongoing road work. Starting tomorrow, MDOT will initiate a lane shift, leading to tighter traffic for about 12 weeks, weather permitting. The northbound and southbound traffic will travel head-to-head for six weeks, then switch configurations for another six weeks. This $68 million restoration project aims to smooth over rough interstate sections. Drivers are advised to remain alert, add extra commute time, and watch for roadside workers. Stay tuned for updates.
