AG Fitch Warns Consumers to Beware of “Missed Delivery” Scam Notifications
SUMMARY: Attorney General Lynn Fitch warned Mississippians about unsolicited “missed delivery” scams during the holiday season. Scammers send texts and emails with links to locate a missed or delayed delivery, which could lead to malware, fraud, and identity theft. The tips to spot and avoid fraudulent notifications include requests for money, personal and financial information, misspelled website addresses, spelling and grammatical errors, and lack of online security protocols. Consumers are advised to go to the delivery carrier's website directly or use the retailer's tracking tools to verify the sender's identity. The U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, and UPS have also warned against these scams. To report fraud, scams, or deceptive business practices, contact the Attorney General's Office.
