Diamondhead crew begins journey to deliver hurricane relief items to North Carolina
SUMMARY: A crew from Diamond Head is heading to Hudson, North Carolina, delivering much-needed relief after Hurricane Helim with two truckloads of donations. Organizer Michael Cassano expresses gratitude for the overwhelming community support, especially from Derek Nikas, co-owner of Ni’s Family Market, who mobilized efforts following his own experiences with past hurricanes. The team emphasizes the harsh realities of disaster recovery and the importance of helping affected communities. They plan to continue making trips to support those in need, acknowledging that while many donate, organizing and executing delivery efforts is particularly challenging and vital.
A U-Haul used by a crew in Diamondhead is expected to be filled with the necessary items for those affected by Helene in North Carolina.

Mississippi shrimp season to open soon
SUMMARY: The Mississippi shrimp season is set to open soon, though the exact date could be postponed depending on sampling results. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) requires that anyone transporting shrimp from Mississippi waters be licensed before entering the water. MDMR will continue sampling prior to the season opening to monitor shrimp movement. If sampling indicates a large movement of juvenile brown shrimp into the area, the season start may be delayed. Rain chances are expected this weekend, but shrimp transport regulations and monitoring remain in effect to ensure a responsible harvest.
Shrimpers will be able to drop their nets in state territorial waters at 6 a.m. on Monday, June 23.
