DeSoto County sheriff says escaped inmate got ride from stranger
SUMMARY: Joshua James Zimmerman, an inmate facing charges including murder, escaped from the DeSoto County courthouse in Hernando, Mississippi. Wearing pajamas and shower shoes, Zimmerman walked across the street and requested a ride from a stranger, claiming he had been in a fight with his wife. The stranger, who was headed to Memphis, provided the lift. DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle II stated Zimmerman, a career criminal knowledgeable in escaping shackles, had a six-minute headstart. With a potential for violence, Zimmerman remains at-large, and there’s a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture. He’s believed to have shaven his beard.
