Department of Labor seeks Mar-Jac employees’ help in investigation

SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Labor is investigating Mar-Jac, a poultry plant in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for possible unsafe work conditions and illegal hiring practices. The investigation was prompted by the of a 16-year-old employee at the plant. The Occupational Safety and Administration (OSHA) is seeking employees to forward with any concerns about safety or child labor violations. Former OSHA agent Debbie Berkowitz believes the company is to up unsafe conditions and intimidate workers into silence. Mar-Jac has denied these claims and stated that they are cooperating fully with the investigation.

Yazoo County deputies seize alcohol bottles, marijuana at correctional facility

SUMMARY: Yazoo County deputies seized contraband inside the fence of Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility on Saturday, July 13, around 1:00 a.m. After investigating two suspects near the outer perimeter, deputies found 14 Sprite bottles, seven Coca-Cola bottles, and four packages of marijuana within the fence. The bottles contained alcohol. Despite a search, the two suspects were not found. No arrests had been made by Monday, July 15.

4 killed in Holly Springs shooting
