Crossroads: Change in Rural America Smithsonian project coming to Stone County, Mississippi

SUMMARY: The Smithsonian Museum is bringing an exciting traveling exhibit to Wiggins, Mississippi. The exhibit, titled “Crossroads: Change in Rural America,” explores how America has changed over the years, from rural life to urban communities and back again. The Stone County Economic Development partnership has been working diligently to plan for this exhibit, which will also showcase the history and growth of Stone County. Wiggins is the only community in South Mississippi to host the exhibit, and it is expected to attract visitors from both north and south of the area. The exhibit opens on August 28th and runs until October 5th at the Ferris O’Neill Senior Center.

SUMMARY: WXXV’s Student Athlete of the Week is Parker Talley from St. Patrick. A senior swimmer, Parker began swimming in seventh grade and has excelled in multiple events, especially the 500-yard freestyle, where he set a personal best of 5:45.61 at last season’s state championship. He helped St. Patrick win the 2024 South State Championship and earned top finishes in relay races. Academically gifted with a 4.1 GPA and a 35 ACT, Parker was accepted to Mississippi State’s Shackles Honors College for mechanical engineering. He leads as swim team captain and is active in honor societies, archery, and robotics, cherishing his teammates like family.
