Crime Stoppers posting signs hoping for tips in cold case

Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers have posted signs in locations around Gulfport, hoping the public will help provide information that will lead to answers about what happened to Kevin Slater.

The organization also is offering up to $5,000 in reward money for a tip that leads to an arrest in the case.

Slater, 24, was found shot to death in his car at the intersection of Tandy Drive and Cora Circle in Gulfport on January 23, 1999.

One arrested, one wanted in fatal Gulfport shooting

SUMMARY: A fatal shooting occurred in Gulfport on April 28, 2025, when suspects Paul Ravin Martin Jr. and Kevin Eugene James opened fire on individuals in the Holly Circle area. Three victims were injured, and 16-year-old Cobi Earnest later died from gunshot wounds. Martin, 23, was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder, Shooting into a Dwelling, and three counts of Aggravated Assault. He was out on bond for a previous drive-by shooting.
