Cooler temperatures to temporarily halt heat wave in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi residents will see a break from extreme heat with a cold front moving in mid-week. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts cooler temperatures across the state starting Tuesday. While the change may not be drastic, it is a relief from the triple-digit temperatures and heat records experienced in recent weeks. Lows will be in the mid-60s with highs in the low to mid-90s from Tuesday through Thursday. However, the NWS warns that the extreme heat is not over yet and temperatures will start to pick back up later in the week.

SUMMARY: Ben Crump, attorney for the family of Demartravion “Trey” Reed, announced that Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp Autopsy Initiative will fund an independent autopsy after Reed, 21, was found dead by hanging on Delta State University’s campus. Though a state autopsy ruled Reed’s death a suicide and no foul play was suspected, the family received conflicting information and sought a second autopsy. The initiative expedites autopsies in suspicious deaths free of charge. Investigations have been handed to the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office, following a request from Rep. Bennie Thompson. Kaepernick, a former NFL player and activist, supports the family’s search for truth.

SUMMARY: Mississippi’s only major-league affiliated team, the Biloxi Shuckers, was eliminated from the 2025 Southern League playoffs after a 4-2 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits in game two of the Division Series. This marks the second consecutive year Montgomery has ousted Biloxi. The Shuckers finished the season 74-64, winning the South Division first-half title. Manager Joe Ayrault, who battled and beat stage 3 colon cancer during the season, praised the team’s effort. Despite an early lead from Jesus Made’s homer and Blake Burke’s RBI single, Montgomery rallied in the eighth inning to win. Biloxi’s next season starts April 3, 2026.
