The park has historical significance as a place where many in the community grew up playing baseball. Currently, the fields are vacant and the Community Action group is working with park board members and the mayor to restore them. Registration for youth sports is currently ongoing in Philadelphia, offering kids a positive activity to keep them off the streets and provide a mentoring and coaching environment.
