Columbus mayor reacts to bill that would move Mississippi School for Math and Science to Starkville

SUMMARY: City and county leaders showed support for the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) remaining on the W’s campus. A Republican senator introduced a bill to move MSMS to MSU in Starkville, causing concern. MSMS has been on the W’s campus since 1987 and despite infrastructure issues, it thrives academically. Mayor Keith Gasin and a delegation were on their way to Jackson for a committee vote, which was later postponed. Gasin emphasized the importance of MSMS staying at the W, citing its benefits to the community and the strong relationship with Mississippi State. The impact of moving MSMS would be significant, financially and culturally, for the city of Columbus.
