Columbus annexation plans placed on hold
SUMMARY: During a recent executive session, Columbus City Council members voted 6-0 to pause the planned annexation of two areas along the city’s borders. This decision, influenced by discussions between ward 5 councilman Stephen Jones and county board president Trip Hairston, allows both sides to reassess the proposal before the next council election in June 2025. City Attorney Jeff Turnage noted that waiting for election outcomes could save money on legal costs, with the city having already spent about $50,000. The county has allocated funds to assist residents with legal issues related to annexation.
