SUMMARY: Law enforcement agencies nationwide are collaborating to increase seat belt usage through the “Click It or Ticket” campaign, running from May 20th to June 2nd. Since its inception, seat belt usage in the U.S., and specifically in Mississippi, has risen. Mississippi’s seat belt usage rate has increased from 75% in 2002 to 79.6%. Sheriff Ward Calhoun highlights that seat belts not only save lives but also reduce car insurance costs. During the campaign, additional deputies will be on duty to enforce seat belt laws. A seat belt citation in Mississippi costs $25, and the campaign coincides with Memorial Day weekend.
