City scrambling to pay for $2M increase in property insurance premium
SUMMARY: The Jackson City Council is facing a dilemma over how to cover more than $2 million in rising property insurance premiums for the city. The council approved a proposal from Lexington Insurance Et al. Group for commercial property insurance, but council members expressed frustration and criticized the lack of communication about the issue. The previous insurance policy was not renewed due to the conditions of city-owned buildings and water issues. Failure to implement risk control measures and previous claims also contributed to the non-renewal. The council must now find a way to cover the costs, potentially by making cuts in other areas.
