City of Jackson temporarily suspends JTRAN services due to workers’ strike
SUMMARY: JTRAN bus services in Jackson, Mississippi, are currently suspended due to a strike by union workers protesting against MV Transportation, the company managing JTRAN since January. Employees accuse MV of unfair treatment, including punitive actions for taking sick leave or requesting time off. The strike emerged after failed contract negotiations, with unions and management unable to agree on a safety-related provision. MV argues that certain safety violations warrant termination to protect passengers. Jackson city officials are urging both parties to resume negotiations, emphasizing the significant impact this strike has on the community’s transit needs. The timeline for resuming services remains uncertain.
