Cheikh Taylor named new leader of Mississippi Democratic Party
SUMMARY: Cheikh Taylor, a state lawmaker and Starkville native, has been named the chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party. He was elected to this position on July 6, following the resignation of outgoing chairman Tyree Irving, who had withdrawn his resignation but was still voted out by the party’s executive committee. Taylor’s goal as chairman is to turn Mississippi blue and improve the party’s financial situation, messaging, and infrastructure. He plans to unify the party and work towards a movement rather than depending solely on himself. Taylor is grateful for the vote of confidence and is determined not to let the party down.
