Canadian football legend and Vicksburg native George Reed passes away
SUMMARY: George Reed, a Canadian football legend and native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, has passed away at the age of 83. Reed spent his entire 13-year career in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He set numerous records in rushing yards and touchdowns, some of which were later broken by NFL players Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton. Reed was also known for his community involvement and was a well-respected figure in the CFL. The Roughriders have asked for donations to the George Reed Foundation in lieu of flowers.

SUMMARY: Mississippi’s only major-league affiliated team, the Biloxi Shuckers, was eliminated from the 2025 Southern League playoffs after a 4-2 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits in game two of the Division Series. This marks the second consecutive year Montgomery has ousted Biloxi. The Shuckers finished the season 74-64, winning the South Division first-half title. Manager Joe Ayrault, who battled and beat stage 3 colon cancer during the season, praised the team’s effort. Despite an early lead from Jesus Made’s homer and Blake Burke’s RBI single, Montgomery rallied in the eighth inning to win. Biloxi’s next season starts April 3, 2026.

Delta State officials counter rumors as investigation continues into Black student found hanging
SUMMARY: Delta State University and law enforcement held a press conference regarding the death of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed, found hanging on campus.
