Local businesses ride wave of excitement as CCU baseball nears another championship
SUMMARY: Local businesses in Conway, South Carolina, are thriving with excitement as Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team nears another national championship, reminiscent of the 2016 victory that boosted the city’s profile. With a population of nearly 30,000, Conway is gaining national attention and increased foot traffic, as locals proudly wear Coastal Carolina gear. City officials and business owners recall the economic boom and rising interest from homebuyers and developers following the 2016 win. Restaurants like Leone’s Italian Deli offer promotions, and community support has raised around $15,000, fueling hope that this championship run will put Conway permanently on the map.
The City of Conway has a population of 30,000 people, and now a college that may bring home a baseball World Series National Championship.
Adam Emrick, Conway’s city administrator, posted on Facebook Friday, showing support for the Coastal Carolina University (CCU) baseball team and gratitude for how far they have come.
Emrick touched on the fact that CCU’s team making it into the National Championship puts the city on the map, and for people to know where Conway is.
“Especially if Coastal wins, I’m expecting a lot. This time of year, everybody’s coming down,” said Marketing Manager of Hop N’ Which, Thomas Erskine.
