Brett Favre is asking an appeals court to reinstate his defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe
SUMMARY: Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre is appealing to revive a defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe, who criticized Favre’s alleged involvement in a Mississippi welfare scandal. Favre’s lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge who ruled Sharpe’s comments on a sports broadcast as constitutionally protected speech. Sharpe had accused Favre of taking money meant for the poor. Mississippi State Auditor reported that Favre improperly received $1.1 million from welfare funds intended for a volleyball arena. Favre has repaid the money but still owes interest. Favre denies any wrongdoing and faces no criminal charges but is among numerous defendants in a civil lawsuit.
