Body-cam footage shows indicted ex-police officers laughing at man who died in their custody
SUMMARY: Body camera footage shows three Jackson police officers did not check on a man who was not breathing after they put him in the back of a patrol car. The footage also shows the officers making a racial slur and indicating that they don’t believe paramedics need to be called. Paramedics arrived 12 minutes into the next clip from Willis’ body camera. When a paramedic opened the back door of the patrol vehicle, he noticed Murriel wasn’t breathing. The language and tactics used by the officers justified their indictment. The man’s family filed a lawsuit against the officers.

SUMMARY: A fatal shooting occurred in Gulfport on April 28, 2025, when suspects Paul Ravin Martin Jr. and Kevin Eugene James opened fire on individuals in the Holly Circle area. Three victims were injured, and 16-year-old Cobi Earnest later died from gunshot wounds. Martin, 23, was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder, Shooting into a Dwelling, and three counts of Aggravated Assault. He was out on bond for a previous drive-by shooting. James, 53, remains at large and is wanted for murder and other charges. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Gulfport Police or Crime Stoppers.
